Our Love Story
Renan signed up for the Wawa Trilogy Ver. 1 in Rodriguez, Rizal for one reason: to impress his crush who said she liked “outdoorsy guys.” What he didn’t expect was to fall—literally and figuratively—for Nika, the hike organizer with a megaphone, a clipboard, and the energy of three energy bars.
“Hoy san na mga bayad nyo, mag bayad na kayo!” she announced at the trailhead like a caffeinated drill sergeant. Renan, trying to look cool, gave her a wink. She responded by assigning him to the front of the line—the “sacrifice slot,” according to local superstition.
By the time they hit Mt. Binacayan, Renan had tripped over three roots, gotten slapped by a branch, and stepped in something suspiciously squishy. Nika, trailing behind to check on everyone, found him covered in dirt and pride. “Doing great, trailblazer,” she smirked, handing him a wet wipe like a medal of honor.
At Mt. Hapunang Banoi, Renan tried to flirt. “Ilang bundok na naakyat mo, Naakyat mo na Tapulao?”
Nika blinked. “It’s probably dehydration. Drink water.”
Still, she stuck by him through the slippery climbs and goat traffic jams. They laughed, shared trail mix and chocolates, and at one point, accidentally held hands while steadying each other on a boulder. Neither let go quickly.
By Mt. Pamitinan, everyone was exhausted. Nika called for a photo at the summit, and as they posed with muddy faces and wild hair, Renan whispered, “Next time, can we just hike to coffee?”
Nika grinned. “Only if you survive this one.”
He did. Barely.
Weeks later, they weren’t just hiking together—they were planning their own “Wawa Trilogy Ver. Love Edition.” Because nothing says romance like shared muscle pain and a girl with a clipboard who made your heart hike uphill.
